I was very sad when I read about Copenhagen installing bicycle footrests for it's cyclists. I wondered why the city of San Diego couldn't do that for us.

But then I realized that Copenhagen has shitty weather and San Diego has perfect weather all year round and I felt so much better.

Then I began to notice that Mother Nature was kind to her San Diegans and had given us cyclists natural footrests to utilize. And thanks to the city's budgetary woes, the chance of these beloved footrests being taken away by those who want to improve our infrastructure will be slim to none.

What are these natural footrests? Well it is a natural formation formed in the asphalt where part of the road rises up and forms a peak just at the perfect height so as to allow us cyclists to rest our foot on them when stopped at a stoplight (see? I follow the law). I do not have good photo taking abilities so I cannot post a picture of these natural wonders. But I will point out a spot where one can be found: Upas and Park Blvd when heading north on Park.

So I urge you fellow cyclists to keep this thread alive by posting other locations of San Diego cyclist footrests. Documenting them with a photo would also be appreciated. Let us all celebrate that which we are blessed to experience here in Sunny San Diego.

I know it is late to bring it up but:

I will be going to the Rose Parade again this year (rain cancels). I'll be there on Colorado Blvd around 11:30am on the 31st. The parade begins on January 1, at around 8am. If anyone is interested in seeing the parade, with front row seating, I will gladly reserve a spot for you. Camping out is not required. I just ask you to bring your own chair, I'll supply the spot. If anyone is interested, I need to know by 29th, as I'll be up in LA on the evening of the 30th and may not have time to check e-mails and such.

Anyone interested? For those that wish, there are train options, you can take Amtrak from San Diego to Los Angeles Union Station. The Metro Gold Line connects at Union Station and has a stop at Lake Ave/I-210, a few blocks north of my spot. I'll be at Lake Avenue and Colorado Blvd, Southeast corner.

Hello, my name is Sky and wanted to start this forum to bring bike commuters together. I felt that new and experienced bike commuters needed a place where they could talk about routes, advocacy and gear. Bike commuting as many of you know is not as easy as just putting a bag on a bike. There's a lot of trial and error that goes into getting the correct route, the correct clothes, the correct bike, the correct bike fit and so on. So here you go, lets make this forum great and with any luck at all we can talk more and more people into joining this form of transportation!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rules

1) This is not a place for Spam. Do not advertise here or else your thread will be removed.

2) Please be polite on this forum. Internet fights are stupid and don't belong here. Check your attitudes at the door.

3) Please use the "Whisper" function for conversations that the rest of the forum doesn't need to read. This will keep the forum clean and precise.

4) Please post your new threads in the correct category.

5) Don't be a lurker! Contribute and help SD with it's bike culture!

What happens if you do stupid things on the forum?
First Offence = warning
Second Offence = you will be assigned "Probation" status for all to see
Third Offence = you will be banned forever.
If the offense is large enough Moderators reserve the right to skip steps or skip all the steps if the offense is big enough!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Loading photos: You need to go to have your photos hosted before posting them. WWW.Photobucket.com is a good site to do this. The accounts there are free and it's easy to use.

Load your photos onto Photobucket.
Copy the line that says "HTML CODE" and bring that code to this site.
Paste that code here
Click the "HTML" button below the dialog box (see it? it's above the smiley faces).
from there you should be good.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Loading videos:
For Youtube videos select html format at the bottom of the comment box and then user the following syntax
<a href="youtubeurl">" put whatever title of the vid you want in this section"</a>

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How to install a link:
-To make a link look for the series of small text boxes above the dialog box.
-Then click on the one that says [link].
-a small window will appear and this is where you will paste in your link and click "OK".
-now your link will appear in the dialog box.
-at this point name your link something like "check out this stupid ebay auction".
-After you type in the name of the link go back up and click on the [link] button again and you are set!
-Oh, and be sure that HTML button is clicked at the bottom of the page above the smiley faces.

it will end up looking like this:
<a href="http://sdbikecommuter.com">Best damn commuter site out there!</a>

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please Whisper a moderator with any questions.

So, the other day, infact, the day before CM, I was at Home Depot in La Mesa. Not even realizing it, I was wearing a VC shirt. Apparently the brother of someone who works at VC works there. I laughed it off a little, and told my "helper" I should get and wear one of the SDbikecommuter shirts. Only to get stopped by another person who asked me "do you know about that site? I saw it at the bike show the other day and wondered if it was a cool sight." A few days later, hobling around on a broken toe, I was picking up rain barrels, when someone asked me about my shirt (Aloha Single Speeders ~ ASS) and if I knew about "This Velo Cult Shop".. before I could say something, a list of events was rattled off about the shop. Then, yesterday at F&E, I met a guy who rides fixed and hangs out on SDFixed. CRAZY!!

But really, San Diego has the potential to be a small town, cycling wise.. I hope it becomes that way at least.

These are going to print now and should be done in time for the frame building show this weekend.

what makes this shirt special? ALL of the print is going to be done in 3M reflective. The www.sdbikecommuter.com across the bottom edge of the back can be seen below a messenger bag and on the sides making you a little safer at night. it's costing us quite a bit more but we feel this is appropriate since it is a commuter shirt. maybe soon we'll also do long sleeves and hoodies too.

props to Beard for the design as usual.

these two bands are touring together and they are both from Portland. they will be here Wednesday evening at the Bar Pink Elephant.

first is Scott McDougal who plays what i call "Hobo Americana". he's a "one man band" with a hearty strong voice and he sings about traveling and hobo'ing which he DOES do.

the headline is Hillstomp. They have a blues/bluegrass kind of sounds. these guys tear it up! two man band with one guy on vocals and guitar while the other one plays buckets, pots, pans, and anything else he can get his hands on.

the last time Hillstomp was in SD they brought the house down and it was a Monday night and they were totally unknown in SD.

i don't ofter recommend bands or music this these two bands are the exception. who wants to go with me?
