I've had this image on my desktop/facebook for a while now and I was wondering if anybody else has other paintings/stickers/sculptures/perhaps even literature about bicycles that they'd like to share.

I write poetry/short fiction and I've had a project involving bicycles on the back of my head for a while now, perhaps I will share some of it with ya'll when the project comes to words, literally, ha-ha.

Here's the picture. It is Francis Bacon, "Portrait of George Dyer Riding a Bicycle," 1966.

Francis Bacon has more very beautiful work, ya'll should check it sometime.

Bacon is one of my favorite painters. Two of his most iconic paintings, although not bike related, are from his series of papal portraits:

Study after Velazquez's Portrait of Pope Innocent X (1953)

Figure With Meat (1954) based on the same painting by Velazquez.

    ^^^

Those are some of my favorites, too! Though my absolute favorite is the collection of self-portraits.

I was stoked to find a Francis Bacon piece partly on a bicycle.

Absolutely anything that requires any sort of artistic ability comes out of my store manager Anthony. Those prints are really very cool. Im getting a set for my condo. We're considering doing another run of them because art snobs are really getting into them. This is all new to me but people keep telling me how amazing they are for being screen prints. I just thought they looked cool. Im slowly learning this art appreciation thing.

Yeah, I love those prints - Anthony is amazing! Is each print numbered?

Only two sets for sale, eh? Betcha they will sell quickly.

Yeah, each print is numbered. Both sets are gone already. We're thinking of printing a second run of 5 or 10.

If I won the lottery, finished my education, and figured out what I wanted to be when I grew up, I'd open a coffee shop and figure a way to steel him from you. Not in that whole put him in a dungen type of way. As in, he's really good with people and art and all that stuff kind of way. My wife wasn't put off by him, and she nominally is always taken aback by most people I know.

Prints are amazing. Having a little experiencing with screen printing (and being an art collector) I can say the quality of the printing itself is top notch from what I can see in the pictures.

Did Anthony do the screens and whole printing process as well?

Our screen printer a true professional and did most the work. He did show Anthony how to do it and let Anthony do some of the work.

I've been following Gene Weingarten since I lived in DC. He wrote this little gem in a chat he did on the Post. Seems like bicycle art to me.

    Gene Weingarten writes:

I have thoughtlessly allowed too much time to go by since my last rant against people who ride bicycles on the sidewalk. We will rectify this right now with a modified double dactyl.

    Higgledy piggledy

    Bikes on the sidewalk are

    Fine if you're teaching a

    Youngster the ropes.

    All other uses are

    Limited only to

    Nincompoops, jackasses,

    Douchebags and dopes.

This is art in the popular culture context. Two old ads for Raleigh bikes.

And here's a wonderful answer to the question, "What is happiness?" from a 1920
    Popular Science magazine. Page 119.

Shana has been making collages for our friends and family. This is the one she made me.

She personalizes each one, hence the bikes, quote from the reader, and all the beer stuff.

Ha thanks Pac. I'm going to try and keep putting them out as much as I can, I had a friend ask me to paint his bike for him in this style so that will be the next one I'll be doing most likely.

Oh and I just scored a job this week which is why I've been MIA, I should know whats going on with that stuff soon so I'll give you a call to go out for a ride or some brews.

Seen in Copenhagen: An abstract sculpture on a public square, created from bike frames and encased in plexi glass. Glass inscribed with poems written by a local resident and poet, whose works often used the bicycle as a central element:

    Photobucket

    "I have felt
    and thought
    and longed
    on a bicycle
and I think I will continue cycling
until death rips the saddle away from under me."
    ---
"I often look out the window
    watching for the postman
    as he parks his bicycle
    at door after door
    until he reaches mine."

    (Translation)

Two from my bookmarks follow. First, a bicycle mandala:

Here is a much bigger 1600x1600 wallpaper-worthy version of the bicycle mandala.

Second, here's a photo which had been used freely on atxbs.com on 6/8/11 (as of this posting it's still there) to promote an Austin TX bicycle ride.
Though this image of two women on bicycles is no more risque than say that close-up of 5-6 men in their too-tight spandex shorts found embedded in another thread here, it should be noted that I've made this image click-able rather than embedding it here since THIS IS NOT WORK SAFE.

Wanted to share these two new ones with you guys. These are from a good friend of mine in Austin, TX. that has joined up with the Brake Free Clothing stuff. We set the dates for our art show which will be in March so these will probably be the last ones I post up until after the show. I'll post something in the local events thread when the dates get closer.

So as I said, myself and a few other artists are putting on a gallery showing of bike inspired art in March (more details to come) and we are taking a few submissions so other people can show their bike art. Figured I would post something up on here in case anybody is doing stuff like that and wants to get involved a little. You can email me @ BrakeFreeClothing@gmail.com or there is a link on our website under the artwork section (disregard all the legal BS, that's mainly for out of state submissions so nobody tries to sue us because of course, this is America and people love to do that.) So if you want to show off some bike art you've done, hit us up.
  18.
Some of the art from our show earlier this month.
