    A little surprised to see how many of these riders (A, B?) were running with their bikes instead of riding. I guess it was looser on Saturday than it was on Sunday.

    They are not A or B riders. The are first timers and C IIRC. The first part of the footage is from Sat morning.

    It's in combination with a UCI night race in a park next to downtown LA. So awesome. Just a half mile from Union Station.

    Forgot to post this earlier. The fields were alive with bicycles. These billboards where various locations around Chicago when I was there a couple months ago. What I was seeing were a heck of a lot of people training. Very popular in the area.

    yeppers... it was SUCH A BLAST! we helped with set up & manned the Mud Pit of Destiny :D i was gonna do a write up on it, but i wanted to wait till dustin e-mails me the pics. anyone not going to these things is totally missing out on such a fun time! beautiful bikes, awesome people with great attitudes, and lake hodges was such a perfect place for this kinda thing! if anyone is heading up north for the remaining ones in the series i would love to catch a ride with you!

    I'm sure a bunch of people will be going up for the UCI weekend / Single Speed World Championships. We can organize some carpools!

    Not much on there yet, but there will be racing both days including Saturday night races. Going to be super fun. It's right next to downtown LA / Union Station as well. Awesome use of public space. Same location as Fuck Yeah Fest.

    I'm looking to do a ride in the Ramona/Lakeside area next week, weather permitting. Does anyone know if El Cajon Mountain Truck Trail is open from El Monte Road near El Capitan Dam? That section is the key to my planned loop.

    The goal is to take the Trolley to Santee, then bike to El Capitan Dam where the dirt road begins. I'll take that up to San Diego Country Estates, then wind my way (haven't fully figured which way yet) over to Mussey Grade Rd, then Foster Truck Trail to 67, then back to Ramona. Lots of climbing, should be fun. I'd love to have someone along if anyone is interested as well. This would be a mixed terrain ride on my cyclocross bike.

    There must have been a sale on Private Road and No Trespassing signs... Almost every roadway I checked out today was either marked Private or No Trespassing.

    I used my motorcycle to check out all the routes I was going to use (at least the start of them). That is where I found the closure problems. At most, if I still go on my ride next week, it will be via 67 to Dye Rd, San Vicente Rd, then Wildcat Canyon to Featherstone Canyon Rd. I found it goes to the El Cajon Mountain Truck Trail like I had wanted. I'll go exploring on that road and return to San Diego Country Estates, then back to 67 and home. I'm still planning to take the trolley to Santee to skip some of the city riding. So, the only one I found accessible that looked good was Featherstone Canyon Road. Every other roadway was blocked/gated/signposted/just not open.

    Not all the roads marked with 'private' signs are really private, though. You should check them out with SANGIS. There was a 'Private' sign on Mother Grundy TT when I rode past it (on Deerhorn Valley Rd side) a month or so ago, and that road is definitely public. :P

    I checked a few out with SANGIS before. Foster Truck Trail was marked as private with older PRIVATE ROAD signs on both ends. Other roads were gated or had No Trespassing signs.

    Didn't know Greg rode CX. Colorways from that era are making a strong comeback. Rahsaan Bahati won the Carlsbad GP on Sunday wearing his new kit with acid green trim.

    Wait until you get a load of my latest late 80s Colnago MTB. It's kind of hard to look at. I'll have it built up in a week or so.

    The steel Poprad CX bikes made by his old company are still coveted and included a model that was among the first disc bikes I know about.

    They made plenty of canti bikes. CX Nationals last year showed the problems with mechanical discs for CX. Interestingly, they are probably fine on dry courses. Self-adjusting hydraulics a la mountain bikes will help solve the problem of worn rotors but I agree - have a hard time seeing the practicality right now and the top Euro pros agree. Winning bikes at Worlds were canti.

    If the SoCalCross event happens, I'll be putting it on at Morley Field the weekend after that instead of the 28th. It's still up in the air and we haven't permitted it yet.

    Udo Cross will be a great event. Spy is doing a quality job with their series. Check it out.
