I think all together is better, especially with kids along. I'll have my phone, and it probably wouldn't hurt to have maybe 3 or 4 people who can be in contact throughout the ride -- redundancy in the system, and all that.

Do we have a route yet? I was thinking that the earlier start time and projected nice weather will have more people out walking/driving/sitting around than last year when it was raining and dark, so the route that was light on people last year will probably be better-populated this year. We might be able to keep basically the same route, only cut out the Cabrillo Bridge by going down Park from Univ. Heights, hang a right into the park, ride down the Prado, ride around the Plaza de Panama, and back out onto Park to go back north. Just a thought.

At 7:30am on Friday morning KPBS will be talking about the tweed ride. The person talking about it on the radio will also be riding with us.

The press this ride is getting is amazing.

The Night & Day section of this morning's U-T (page 30) announces the Tweed Ride as taking place on Sunday, Dec. 12 at 2 pm. The writer, Nina Garin, goes on to say that riders will be wearing their "Sunday best." Actually, I'm not surprised. The new and improved U-T seems to have difficulty getting things right and their writers are no better. For example, when they send Garin to review a concert, she ignores the music and writes about what the performers were wearing on stage.

We all need to call and write to the U-T to print a correction. The Night & Day editor is Lisa Sullivan at (619) 293-1297.

I wonder where Garin got her information?

It would be perfect if the conditions were anything like they are at my location right now: Dense, heavy, impenetrable fog everywhere -- like a wet, cold blanket.

Can't wait to ride home through this!

Here's the route we've worked out for this year's ride. Much the same as last year to accommodate all skill levels, but reflecting the closure of the Cabrillo Bridge that Sam warned about.

We will ride up 30th Street through South Park and North Park to Adams Ave., make a left on Adams and ride to Trolley Barn Park in University Heights, where we will take a short break to regroup. We'll get back on Adams, make a left on Park, down through University Heights and Hillcrest to Village Place (by the Spanish Village Art Center); we'll make a right on Village Place, riding into the park, down the Prado, around the Plaza de Panama (aka, the parking lot in the middle of the park), then back down the Prado, stop at the fountain to regroup and take photos, then retrace our route back to Velo Cult and after-ride socializing at The Station.

D'oh! That's okay, I think we should still skip riding over the bridge and keep the route outlined above since there are fewer lights and fewer stop signs (and thus fewer chances to break up the group) if we avoid the western side of the park and the central part of Hillcrest. But it's still an open plan, any thoughts from the group?

I think Hawkins has his heart in the right place. It is good to see so much press coverage this year for a local event.

Since the ride is passing by my house I think I'll just jump on on Adams Ave. instead of leaving the track bikes inside the car while we're away on our ride.
Locked inside the house is the safest policy. Ci vediamo domani!

I think Mr. Hawkins's intent is to provide positive press for cyclists in San Diego. The problem may be that he is in the process of getting a clue about the true nature of our growing cycling community. Let's invite him out on a ride! Is it possible he may show up this afternoon?

It's possible. I know that San Diego Magazine, Citibeat, and the girl on KPBS will be there. I'm sure a handful of others will be there too. I have a feeling there will be quite a few professional photographers there. Of course Anthony will be doing his thing. If you have a good outfit and bike please show up an hour early.

    HUGE SUCCESS!!

I counted 126 riders. That's nearly 100 more riders than the previous year.

Ages ranging from about 5 years old to retirement age. The most age diverse free urban ride I have ever seen in San Diego. The best dressed too.

Thanks again for coming out, it was really fun to put on.

We need to edit all the photos and video so it will take us about a week to get it all on the blog.

Those are great! I never have the presence of mind to take photos during the actual rides. I have a ton from before the ride and at the stops that I'll post tomorrow once I get them uploaded and sorted.

What a great ride--quote of the ride from an older Eastern European(?) gentleman who passed my group on an old ten-speed:

"I don't know what is purpose, but is WONDERFUL!"

So great to see such a huge turn out so well turned out!

Trying to find a sesquipedalian term to describe such a ride is not an easy task. I'll settle with "simply smashing".
I was expecting a great time, however it surpassed my expectations. What impressed me the most would have to be the children who participated. To ride that distance, as well as the grade changes while in pace with a group, is impressive. Thanks go out to not only Sky and his crew, but to everyone else that helped organize, promote, and/or participated. Last year's ride was my most memorable bike/social event in San Diego, but now I have a new number one.

I'm already thinking of a steam-punk sound system for ambiance, next time:face-monkey:

Yes! Awesome ride, great people and a nice route. Great job with the publicity and thanks to everyone who helped make it happen!

My wife had a great time too. She was a little sore yesterday and today...I was giving her a hard time about it until I mapped our route for the entire day and realized that she rode 20+ miles throughout the day on Saturday. That is definitely a big chunk of miles for her...but she (and I) was psyched because she didn't even realize it. It doesn't get much better than when you enjoy being on your bike so much that you don't even notice the miles you ride.
