Last tag was on MLK Promenade, sculpture entitled "Chains". Graffiti on the top helpfully points out that "GREED" is a "BITCH".

Okay, this is another "Judges' Discretion" photo. The area that I took this in is geographically inside the city of San Diego. However, I acknowledge that some may consider it North County. If that is the popular ruling, I will post another photo in the morning. Otherwise, this is my tag. Anyone who can name the building designer (the staff inside would be happy to tell you) wins . . . ummm . . . uh . . . 10 INTERNETS BONUS POINTS*!!!.

Alright, my post won't go up until the morning. I forget the word on this- the tag is now open, but if I place the new tag before someone else reclaims the old one, do I still get to lay claim to the new tag?
  1.
Rule #3: "As "it", you have 48 hours to place a new tag. If you don't, the honor of being "it" transfers to the second finder/poster. It is highly encouraged to post the new tag quickly and in a way that is locationally diverse: In short, if you don't have the time or inclination to place a new tag quickly, don't claim one in the first place. And try to go the extra mile to place the tag somewhere different than the neighborhood you found it in.

I think you're okay as far as getting the next tag up. You haven't been "Bruced" yet in the sense of not placing a tag within 48 hours, by someone who may claim the last tag at the Hyatt.

I'm not well versed on all the rules so someone may rule differently.

Ride well and be safe out there.

    OKB

    F**K IT.

Hmmm, that's quite ambiguous. Where in the heck is this? But wait! What's that, in the spokes on the back wheel? Commander, zoom in there and enhance!

A set of coordinates! Could be useful....

OK kids, here's the name of the game: the first photo is intentionally ambiguous but there so no one thinks I wimped out. The second is for you to use, because the tag location isn't anything special, but more of a delightful hidden surprise, so use the second image to figure out where the surprise is, and after that figure out how to get to it. Some folks will undoubtedly know this spot. But it's a great little ride to it!

Sigurd has to give everyone else a 2-day headstart on this one. He suggested this variation in the first place and will obliterate this tag come early morning otherwise. If the rain does not hold sway on the morrow, get out and acquire this place!

I reserve the right to verify the correct tag photo (I will be lenient to within a few meters, about the resolution posted above).

    Just for clarification:

In order for a "finder" to lose his right to place a new tag, both of these requirements have to be met:

    1) Your find has to have been "Bruced".
    2) Your 48 time limit to place a new tag has to have lapsed.

In your case there was no "Bruce" - so the above two requirements are not met: You are OK!

PS! How did you identify the location coordinates - is there an app for that (or did you bring a GPSR, or look it up on your computer in advance)?

I didn't want to let the actual numbers get in the way, though it would have been amusing if the coordinates were misread and they placed you out in the desert or (as it happened with svelocity) in the ocean. I tried to at least make folks work for the degrees, minutes, seconds, etc. of the coordinates.

PS- Sorry to hold you back, Sigurd, but I figured you had unfair advanced knowledge of the location.

I looked at the photo yesterday and realized it was somewhere on Mt. Soledad, but I presumed it was looking south for some reason. Then today I plugged the numbers into google maps and laughed out loud when it zeroed in on the Hillside path just above and parallel to Via Capri, as that's a mile from my house. A steep mile, but a mile no less!

With my phone's GPS it kept saying I was 11 yards then 8 yards then finally 3 yards away was the best I could do for some reason.

I hope to get out tomorrow morning again before work for the next one.

    Serge,

I have no intent of actually executing my Bruce privileges, seeing as I kind of knew ahead of time where DStone's tag was: Consider my Bruce invalid. Unless and until a valid Bruce materializes, you can still post your new tag even if the 48 hr limit has expired.

So go out and place it!

I'm having login/email conflict problems between yahoo and flickr that's keeping me from logging in to flickr.
So I loaded it on Facebook and figured out how to get the URL for that. Preview indicates it works. Hope that's a permalink with Facebook.

    Where is this?

    Okay, here's the hint.

When I was getting ready to take this picture, a neighbor stepped out and I explained to him why I was taking the picture. He said that when the owner of this house is home, it might be difficult for others to get this picture. The secret service will stop you.

Luckily, the owner is very busy elsewhere in the country right now and unlikely to be home in the next few days. But as we get closer to June he should be here more and more often.

    ---
Okay, got it to work from flickr:

I didn't think there was much question about that. Permits for such tear downs/rebuilds are approved regularly. He obviously has the bucks to grease whatever needs greasing.

Reason #57 for him to lose: not to clog up this whole part of San Diego with secret service when he's in town! Can you imagine what a nightmare that would be? The procession from Miramar would create havoc in traffic.

My father and I both grew up in this area and I would absolutely hate to see a classic block and brick La Jolla home razed and replaced with a La Costa style McMansion. Judging from that horrible white wedding cake on I-5 I suppose we can't expect Romney to have any kind of aesthetic taste (now the Mormon Mafia will be after me as well). Why he can't just leave well enough alone architecturally is beyond me.

Nice snag, OKB. When AlanKHG was visiting we rode by his block on our bikes; he was standing outside talking to the secret service folks when we went past. They all turned their heads and watched us ride by with some suspicion. It was amusing, to say the least. I always feel like a creeper when visitors want to walk down to his house and look in but hey, it's not a private street, ya know?

Aesthetically, I agree. But I also recognize that since it's private property in which I have no stake, it's not up to me. This is not a private community with CC&Rs to which we've all contractually agreed to follow at the time of purchase.

"until the GC leader finally catches them and blasts past them for the win."

Ha! That's funny; if you only knew of my pedestrian pace you'd be laughing too. These guys are the "kings of the hills", I'm just a low country "beach cruiser."

    @dstone,
"I always feel like a creeper when visitors want to walk down to his house and look in but hey, it's not a private street, ya know?"

It's only because of his celebrity that folks want to check it out. I feel bad for the neighbors who probably had a nice level of autonomy and privacy. It's funny, feeling sorry for the rich folks, but often they're good folks who just happen to be long time residents and non-intrusive in the local 'hood. When the circus comes to town, that nice bucolic seaside neighborhood will be rocked.

    Anyway....

    ========================================

    Ahoy and Avast Matey's,

For all you filthy landlubberly, grog guzzling, pub crawling scally wags, I've set me sights on a good ship for taggin' this fine and fair day. She's a Stately and quick vessel, built to collect revenues from the pirates that would run the rum illegal from south of the border.

There's a fair number of knots in that there rigging! It would take a seasoned captain and a fine crew to undue the Gordian Knot that is her rigging and set her to sail to the Coronado Islands and the good chase of the Rum Runners.

Hoist a cold refreshing ale and sing out lads and lassies, "fair winds and good hunting!"

Fair winds and good hunting indeed,
