I seem to be the most prolific Bruce here by now:

The ship on dry land is at Liberty Station, just north of North Harbor Drive and just west of the runway at Lindbergh Field.

Sigurd, you have three water bottles and two packs--looks as if you're on a long ride, maybe you can catch this next one on your way back:

I love this picture! It will be taken before this weekend is over. That's for sure.:face-devil-grin:

I like the setting crescent moon over the archway. NICE!

I would liked to have tagged this one as it is close by, but I am busy tomorrow and wouldn't be able to post within the 24 hour time limit.

It may be that some members have missed the fact that we changed the rule to 24 hours, and therefore won't post in time: However, there are currently no Bruces on this tag, so Hippy will remain "it" even if his time limit expires, until a Bruce appears.
  5.
My friends call me Old Knotty Buoy,...you can call me Bruce! HA!
    (Or is it Weeeeeeeee-oooooo!) :face-devil-grin:

I think you guys are being way too nice about letting an Old Knot have time to catch up and get into the game. Thanks!

Now for a new tag and a nice bike ride on a beautiful day.

Ride well and be safe out there,

I guess this is NOT a tag!

    Now that's a Bruce!

...I swear the delay/tease on tag availability was unintentional, my schedule got a little weird...

    Go for this one, OKB!

But I'm gonna leave it up 'cause I went through the effort of leaving my house to take the pic/upload it... :face-devil-grin:it doesn't have to make sense, but it does make me feel better:face-angel:

Hippy did not post a new tag within the statutory 24hr limit. Hippy's delayed tag is invalid as it was posted after OKB's Bruce.

Official's verdict: OKB is the new "it" and needs to post new tag within 24hrs.

Hippy - feel free to remove your tag at your option.

I know I'm a little late to the rules change discussion, but I thought the 48 hour window was pretty good. The 24 hour time limit means you are probably going to have to take a picture on the same ride, which means the tags are likely to be closer together. I think the previous photo should not be a clue for the next. Just my 2 cents!

I'd vote to stick with 48 hours too, but I've only grabbed one tag so far.

What a gorgeous day along the coast of San Diego and in the month of June of all things!

    Bike-O-Rama

Here's the next TAG, go get it.

Talk about multi-modal transportation. Wouldn't it be great to get home and be asked "How was your commute today?", and you could say "Oh it was a breeze, I just flew home."

    Just sayin'. :face-monkey:

Thanks for the feedback on time limit. If anybody else here has an opinion, please share it: It will certainly be taken into consideration in tweaking the rules in order to create the best possible game for all.

    Got it!

And I think 48 hours (strictly enforced) would be better to reduce too closely spaced spots.

Wait for my next tag tomorrow morning.
  11.
I too agree with the 48 hour time limit. I would hope that contributes to 'quality' tags that are spaced out and not too close to each other. (By 'spaced out' I don't mean a "parallel universe game" as suggested by Sigurd.) It diminishes the game when tags are within a quarter of a mile or even a mile of the previous tag. If taggers feel a time constraint they may just tag what's close at hand. The game seems to be a lot more fun and interesting when the diversity of local is a part of the fun.

Having said that, I have been one of the voices wondering when the next tag will appear. I really enjoy the game and admire the players who are so quick to get out there and get the tag. I also enjoy the great locations of these tags and even if I'm only in the game virtually, I find my competitive juices are flowing and I'm 'jonesing' for the next tag. The information that Sigurd posted, about the number of viewers and hits to this page of the forum, speaks volumes about the general interest in the game. If others are like me, they are checking the forum way too often! I'll try to hold my enthusiasm in check and bite my tongue while waiting for the next tag.

Ride well and be safe out there,

    OKB

nice one batmick! i like the 48hr deal... granted, for those of us like & & old knotty who wait on baited breath for the next one it makes it a lil slower... but for me atleast, unless it is on a weekend, my hours prevent me from giving you guys anything good. i think each of the tags i have picked up have been the middle of the night kinda deals & i would not have time again to get to anything till the next night on my way home from work again... thats just me though. whatevers clever...

I've never been able to get a tag, and I wait with bated breath for each one, cursing the slowness..but I'd have to admit that to me, 48 hours seems more reasonable.

But! I really like what batmick did there, above. He told us when he was expecting to post the next tag. I think that that simple addition of convention (doesn't have to be a hard and fast rule) can help improve the process. I suppose it takes away some of the surprise/mystery, though. :)

    WOOT! w00t!

A little cloudy today, so the landmass in the background is not visible.

I am planning to post the next tag tonight - expect something "completely different" from below. I will also announce some changes to the rules tonight.

Rule modification. By popular demand, we have upped the max. time allowed from tag claim to placement from 24hrs to 48hrs.

When we reduced the max limit to 24 hrs, it was with the aim to reduce waiting times between tags. We achieved that. However, one undesirable side effect was that we lost some of that locational diversity that is so important to keep the tag relevant for all and for everyone here to stay interested.

The new 48hrs rule, therefore, comes with the following recommendations, in order of importance:
    1) Keep the tag location easy as to appeal to as many members as possible.
    2) Keep the location diverse - if you claim a tag in one neighborhood, go the "extra mile" and try to place it somewhere different, hopefully managing to appeal to other riders.
    3) With 1) and 2) taken care of, try to post as quickly as possible, but with the 48hrs limit being the statutory maximum.

Please allow the new rules and recommendations to work for awhile before we make suggestions about further modifications. The new rule and recommendations take effect immediately.

With that said, below is the new tag. Take it as an example - it is both easy (I think!), has been moved to a different neighborhood, and is also posted quickly after claim.

Here it is - now go get it, it is not dark yet: We are within 13 days of the longest day of the year. And even if it gets dark, take the photo anyways - the central object is lit in blue after dark!

The new tag is modeled after the ideal of being 1) easy, 2) locationally diverse, and 3) quick (in that order of importance)!

The last location was off the side of the "inside" road at Torrey Pines State Reserve.

I like the new/old rules. My problem is that I rarely make it south of La Jolla so my tags will always be limited in geography. The only reason I snagged that San Diego tag was that it was just too close to my workplace to pass up.

The NC bike-o-rama is definitely more my turf.

No problem, BM! The Salk courtyard is an excellent tag location that I had thought of using myself, too - but I had no idea it is presently undergoing construction. Placing it there would sort of be a gift to you, though...
