    AlanKHG:
Did bananas get more expensive over the summer or something? I remember that in Pittsburgh and, seemingly, just about everywhere I stopped on my bike tour, bananas were $.49/lb. But I hardly ever see them here below $.69/lb, even though they're apparently arriving by the boatload. Weird.

Oil Prices. Those aren't sailing ships (yet). So you can expect stuff that gets shipped from far away to cost a bit more.

I find Trader Joes to be a good deal on bananas.

Sigurd:Just a rule clarification with regards to the right time to reveal the location of a claim: This should be done when, or after, the claimer has placed a new tag. So - you claim a tag, post a new tag, and only then will you reveal the location of your claim.

    Why?

We have a system whereby a secondary claimer (such as VC above, also know as a "Bruce") becomes the legitimate claimer by default if the primary claimer fails to place his new tag within 48hrs of his claim. By not having the location of the claim revealed, secondary claimers ("Bruce") need to make the claim on basis of the same info as the primary claimer (instead of having been told the location they need to go to).

If this makes sense...this rule is not going to be enforced really strictly at all, but if we all at least strive towards following that format.

Makes sense to me. BTW: I love this game!

    ---

VC's tag "mis-placement" gave me an idea for a "hyper variation" of this game, though: In this variation, a tag is live until anyone who found it and posted, regardless of order, has placed a new tag: In this "hyper variety", VC (in the example above) would be the legitimate tag holder because he placed it first, regardless of if he was the first to claim or not: Anybody who has made a claim can place the tag - the first one to do so is the winner!

Again - we will stay with our current rules, but the hyper variation may be fun for a more fast-paced and punchy game.

I think it's already challenging for those of us that don't have fancy phones with which you can post the picture immediately once you get the tag and have to run home, download it from the camera and post it so I for one am not in favor of the hyper-variation... :face-monkey:

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I know where this one is (I cheat and use Google and Street View), but I am certain there's another one around close to me (and not the other one I find on Google, either). I just can't place it exactly. Was going to tag it for laughs but I just...can't...find...it.

Praxis:...I cheat and use Google and Street View, but I am certain there's another one around close to me (and not the other one I find on Google, either). I just can't place it exactly.
The very location is in plain-view on Street View, but is a little finicky to find as the building is set back a bit from the main road.

I will pick it up this weekend if nobody beats me to it (famous last words, I'm sure...).

gavilan:I think it's already challenging for those of us that don't have fancy phones with which you can post the picture immediately once you get the tag and have to run home, download it from the camera and post it...
Fully agree - the advantage is already tilted towards those carrying the latest in cellphone technology, and it would be counter to the all-inclusive spirit of the game to further this advantage. Having recently gone "retro" myself and traded my iPhone for an eight year old Nokia I can easily relate to that!

The "hyper version" of the game may also encourage hastily and poorly chosen tag locations (which is strongly discouraged) and the use of file photos (which the rules prohibit): Not that I think any of the good members here would be doing any of that...
    :face-monkey:

The over-riding measure of a quality tag location is one that "everybody" knows where is or if not that, one that members can easily find with a minimum of Internetting: It's all about riding, not Googling.

t.e.d:...near the new overpriced pedestrian bridge.
They should have figured out a way create a pedestrian-only crossing at Park instead of the bridge. Basically, the bridge is a giant sack of money given by tax payers to the developer and owner of the vast parking structure on the west side of Harbor - there is no other discernible societal benefit from the bridge that I can identify.
  3.
I'll take this one tomorrow just to save Sigurd's legs the trip :face-devil-grin:

unless someone beats me to it, of course...

I've got the day off tomorrow and plan on doing a fun ride up Rose canyon, down the 5 to the 56, and then riding KVR to C.Mesa after a little climbing on Black Mountain to bring it back. Anyone is welcome to join, just whisper for the cellie#- I planned on starting around 830/9am-ish, keep the pace between 18 and 21 to keep the heart rate up (if I feel up to it!).

Soledad to finish for any masochists out there with nothin doin on a Thursday...

OKay, I have to admit that I drove my car as I had several places to visit today but had "ride time"in between

Went to one location (indicated in Googlemaps) this morning that was relatively close to a favorite outdoor store but the walls were different from Pacmule's post. Disappointed, but I kept riding. It wasn't fun riding up that stretch of busy road at all. The sidewalks were the narrowest I have ever seen. On the upside, I now know of a few bike stores to keep in mind.

And eventually, found "IT" near my favorite industrial hardware store but I had to really look for it on my bike as it wasn't obvious from the road.

I think we need to keep the TAGS (photos) near most common areas near sdbikecommuters' route.

I am probably the least likely to be able to go out of my way to get a tag, but I think it's a lot more fun if they're not all in/near downtown. But maybe it's just me.

How do you like that Tikit? I've been toying with the idea of one of their family tandems.

Oh, and I gotta check out that hardware store, thanks for the tip.
  5.
It's my second Tikit that I found at the bikeswap last weekend. I've had about 6 bikefridays in the last decade. And we have a Tandem XL that I use with my son or wife.

With the north county bike-o-rama we had to keep the geography small. So that more cyclists can join as most places they tag will be along their commute. Just sayin

well, comin from the south... either by the coast or by KVR. there are a few routes that you can take to get there & all are great! the coastal route from SD through la jolla is awesome but brutal long, but there are a few ways to do the coastal route including rose canyon bike path. i prefer to take KVR cause it is shorter & has less hills... not as beautiful as the ocean, but the rolling hills are a pretty sweet sight to see in the early mornin or just before sundown, lots of owl's too! but then again, that just my opinion.
again sorry, i thought you guys would enjoy the journey, but it seems like folks are pissed... :face-sad: if i choose to do this again i will make sure it is easier to get to

Ted is right - the game is all about getting people out on their bikes, and if this means exploring some unfamiliar or far away areas, even better! On a general level, I think we owe PacMule an apology for breaking the following game rule:

    Sigurd:#5: No whining!

From Mission Bay, I could make a quite nice route of it: Rose Canyon BP, Rose Canyon Trail, continue the trail to the north/east of UC High, hit Nobel and then Miramar Rd.: I had planned to do this Sat or Sun early AM, and I am sure it would have been a great ride!

Not to mention all of us totally talking about the tag location before the next one is up. In my case, I was trying to be circumspect, and was genuinely curious. There's a lot I don't know about the city, and even if we're talking about areas I'm famliiar with it's interesting to hear about other people''s concepts of beauty especially when they're different than mine.

For what it's worth I think there are few of us who would rate the area immediately surrounding the latest tag as a beautiful ride. Just too much traffic, no architecture of note. But who knows? Hence, I asked. :)

Waiting with irrational enthusiasm for the next tag...

Agreed - this has become a bad habit. I guess members get excited when they know the location, but if they can't ride out and get it this very moment, they'll chat about it here in poorly cloaked references, instead. But let's not!
