Sam:I have no idea where most of these tags even are! Random ocean spot, random bridge, random god only know where. Glad the rest of you are all knowledgeable enough to figure out these nooks and crannies.

I mean riding up Mt. Soledad last weekend some parts looked like I was riding on Genesee (random shrub next to random incline). When I get Alzheimers I am going to be constantly lost.

I can totally relate. No worries, I'll get one someday, maybe. For the memory challenged, there's always Google.

Let me re-iterate how we define a "quality tag": The best tag is a tag that the most members recognize the location for right away, with no or extremely limited googling: The game is not about stumping people or identifying the person who recognizes the most obscure location - it is about getting as many cyclists as possible out on the roads claiming the tags. The more participation (and the more "Bruces"!), the better!

Here is an archive, generic photo of a motif that would make a quality tag - it would be accessible to all, even those who moved to San Diego five minutes ago:

    Capisce?

Between Gavilan and me, there are good prospects of claiming the current tag. If neither of us -- and nobody else -- can figure it out, its time for some clues.

I probably won't be able to make it out to the presumed spot until this weekend.

Since I still have until tomorrow morning to post, I'll put up a new tag that is less obscure tomorrow morning/by noonish if this is still unclaimed by then.

Yes, let's just put up a new one in order to include some more people here.

Having said that, there is a chance I can make it out to the presumed location tonight after work: If I do, and the location is correct, I may Bruce you!

    Oh yeah!
I only knew this because I used to live down the hill and I would sometimes run through this neighborhood.
    photo.JPG
This one is in the neighborhood just across the street from Kate Sessions park on the south side of Mount Soledad.
It's actually a blue circle on google maps in the map view (not satellite) if you zoom in close enough.
Looking out to the west, the coastline in the background is north Pacific Beach.

Man, I can't believe I missed that one - I must've walked my dog past this place a hundred times: First, I was thinking this one (but rejected it because it was square), and then went to visit this one tonight, but found it looked nothing like it should.

So close, but yet so far...
  1.
I commute to work on Foothill to the west, and from work on Soledad Rd. to the east (of the tag) every day. I would've never found it.

I think yoshi deserves double points- maybe triple!
I still can't believe how close I was to it so often :face-crying:
...but I can't whine, 'cause I'm gonna have to detour a block tomorrow just to see it:face-devil-grin:

    =====

When it's this easy, even Old Knotty Buoys have to play. I thought about it for twenty minutes before I rousted myself from the computer and rode over there. I've been lurking for too long and need to 'get rolling'! This is my first...and with any luck won't be the last.

    See you all tomorrow morning.

Ride well and be safe out there!

Nice, Yoshi! Thanks for making up for the obscure post with a much cleaner tag.

I decided to tag the spot in North PB partly because nobody had done PB yet (I was looking at the map to determine the next locale) and partly because I saw this giant circular...thing from space and thought it would be neat to check out anyway. Anyone one know what that structure is, anyway?

Hope the ride was nice, no more tags FROM SPACE.

Yes, it is a public water reservoir/tank.

In my search for this tag, I realized that these structures are not only unmarked as to their function in the terrain, they are also unmarked on Google Maps. Most importantly, they are not listed anywhere on the 'Internet, incl. on the City of San Diego Water Dept. web site.

    Security reasons, perhaps?

Oh yes, very nice ride indeed. Luckily I was already scheduled to have dinner at my mother-in-law's in PB tonight. I was so excited to get there once I figured it out that I was probably anaerobic for most of the ride from my office in Kearny Mesa.

Way to motivate Old Knotty! This was my first grab too. It's hard to play because I live in Leucadia and MarkPhilips is so darn fast with the north county postings!
  3.
Nice find Yoshi. Kudos for getting O. K. B. out. I see that you're riding your last project. Nice!

You'll get your chance in North County. I don't even know where the last tag is located. It's free for all!
  4.
It was gray and cool this morning. Here's the tag. Maybe someone can get it on their way home.

I'm not sure if I'm loading the images correctly. The links seems to work but at first last night my image didn't show in the page. (Maybe someone fixed the code so it would finally display.) I hope this takes.

Thanks to all you gamers out there who help to motivate and inspire us Old Knotty Bones to get out and get going! It's a good excuse to see the city and appreciate what we have here. Iconic locations and the natural beauty of this spring season with all the wild flowers and blooming trees are fun to capture as it's own special type of 'bike porn'.

Ride well and be safe out there!

Just as a rule clarification, OKB: Your bike is supposed to be conspicuously present in the tag picture (unless that's you riding in the background, that is!).

We'll let this one slide for this time, and apart from that - great tag! Go get it, Bryan (and everybody else, incl. myself)!

    Sigurd,

t.e.d is right as that is my bike half way across the span. It might not be as "conspicuously present in the tag picture" as we might like, but it's there none the less. In order to frame the shot and include all the relevant structure, the scale of the bike was less than ideal.

The biker going past was serendipitous but really adds to the shot on a forum like this.

Ride well and be safe out there!

    OKB

That is beautiful pedetrian bridge. I don't think I'v appreciated that much when speeding down that hill at 25-30 mph ;-)

I'm twiddling my thumb at work as I wait for robot parts to arrive. It's very tempting as it is nearby my customer location.

Then unless you went BACK to get the shot, you've violated the rules of the game and have thus forfeited your bike to the next poster... which, in this case, happens to be me.

    Just kidding... kind of.:face-devil-grin:
