luke:Where are the whales and that pedestrian bridge? I'm guessing UCSD ...
Close - whale sculpture is at Birch Aquarium. Ped Bridge is crossing LJ Shores Dr. at Scripps Institute.

Both locations are on the map now (see Post #1).

Although not UCSD proper, both are on UCSD property. All my geology classes at UCSD were held at Scripps.

    Tag!
    Photobucket

Just kidding - the above is an archive photo, and therefore an invalid claim according to the rules of the game - this posting just to exemplify how not to claim a tag. The tag is therefore still live!

I took this one as one of several possible tag locations for an earlier tag, but decided in the end to go with another one (the Quince St. ped bridge) instead.

I am all over this one tomorrow, though - see if somebody can beat me to it!

Still out but thank you Ted for letting me know about photobucket. Works much better.

Location of tag is at the embarcadero between the Midway and the Bob Hope memorial.

    Shapps (Bryan):

    Tagged!

Will edit my post when I get home to link image properly. Can't find a way to get a direct link to it in my phone.

    Hint... start with photobucket.

Is the tag still live? I don't think it's fair to bend the rules, which state the photo must be embedded, to fix it when you get home. Just my opinion.

I tried to fix the link on Bryan's behalf, but the HTML code is some weird variant that does not divulge the URL of the underlying JPEG. Some times these image servers become too fancy in their eagerness to advance.

Perhaps Bryan in capacity of account owner at Flickr can access the underlying JPEG code, but I surely can't figure it out (without copying the image and hosting it on a different server).

I truly hope that Bryan makes it home in time to edit the code himself so that we don't have to enforce the rules: Even though a technicality, the rules clearly state that the image itself needs to be embedded in the post: Pedal hard, Bryan!

@Bryan - when using FLIKR mobile app, you can view the photo (once it is loaded in FLIKR), then right click (or other menu keys) to copy the image address.

I don't know much about Olmos, but I approve of the vintage: That magenta bike in the photo at the Ocean Beach skatepark from the bike o rama a few days back is a 1987 Waterford Schwinn Paramount.

and you are correct sir! southbound Kearney Villa Rd. about a 100 or so yards from the exit/onramp to the 163
    R.I.P

i had not seen this before tonight... this is actually right in the spot i am lookin over my shoulder & taking the lane to cross the 163 exit/onramp. i want to thank you for choosing this as your tag, wpstoll. it's hard to put the experiance into words to be honest. i truely love riding KVR! it is quite a beautiful stretch of road... but i will not lie that it is a rather harrowing and sobering experiance at times... and standing by that small monument, in the dead of night, thinking of a man who i have never known... well again, not so easy to put into words, but it was quite personal, & a good thing.... thats the best way i could put it.

PacMUle:... this is actually right in the spot i am lookin over my shoulder & taking the lane to cross the 163 exit/onramp...
That is likely the exact thing Larry (then 79) did that faithful day in 2001, too.

I have no real reason to ride KVR in my travels and have probably only ridden past this location once or twice, but WP has relentlessly reminded us -- and those in positions of power -- of the perils of riding KVR. He has also been successful in having certain changes made to the roadway in order to improve cyclist conditions. However, more work remains to make KVR meet minimum cyclist safety requirements, which would include measures to reduce speed differentials.

For non-cyclists, it is easy to ignore that KVR is the only realistic cyclist route through Miramar Air Station, and therefore is a vital cyclist thoroughfare between large swaths of central San Diego and North County.

I second the gratitude to WP for the work he has done on KVR.

Pac's photo perfectly captures the mood I was anticipating. Great shot!

CalTrans and the City are still stonewalling on the high speed transition ramp to southbound 163. I talked to Jim Lundquist about it when we rode downtown with Jim Baross after the Rose Creek Bridge groundbreaking ceremony. This month marks the 10th anniversary of Larry's killing. A decade of advocacy has resulted in new bike lanes, but the 800 pound gorilla is still in the room.

The new bike lanes went in after I let Mike Turko loose on the City. Maybe it's time to make another call!

It took me a while to get out and get it done, but here it is.....TAG.....I think! The glare from the tag post was a little overwhelming.

I'm still struggling a bit to get the images into the forum pages. Thanks to billd for advice and guidance (just sayin' page) on getting the images to load. I guess I've got it figured out now. (Only took a week of head scratching and staring blankly into the monitor...HA!)

Also, I have a camera that takes the shots and I have to bike home to upload it. It makes it hard to compete with the cell/photo phones, but when I have a few days to get it done....even an Old Buoy can play!

Surf's UP but a bit blown out!

    OKB

I think its around mile 16- my riding buddy used to race, and said some of the sdbc 'A's split off there for a sprint or two... he wasn't on top form, so we were just kinda cruisin'
    ...it's a tough life...:face-angel:

ps. edit- oddly enough, the mapmyride map this links to was mapped by a user with 'gavilian' in the username... my gps wasn't being cooperative, so I did a search for the ride when I got back and it popped right up!

I say yeah... If we start stipulating how your bike is to be framed in the photo, how far are we from saying "Bike must be held by the feet of a mime doing a handstand next to an ice cream cone."

Seems like a slippery slope. Good catch Shady.

Making the bike stand upright on that hill was not simple - I had to take one shoe off, balance the bike on it precariously, and then run to take the photo before the wind direction changed...
