Between myself & David/dstone, I think a bunch of y'all already know, but I've decided to move away from San Diego, in large part on account of how impractical it is to be a bike commuter here.
Being a young cyclist, I'd like to live in one of the neighborhoods surrounding Balboa Park. Being a computer engineer, I'd like access to good job opportunities. Unfortunately, it seems like all the good tech jobs are in terrible places like Sorrento Valley or Rancho Bernardo, both of which are very far from anywhere I'd like to be (other than maybe Peñasquitos Canyon) and only practically accessible via the delightfully congested 805. So, faced with the choice between living somewhere boring (like La Jolla or Mira Mesa) or having a terrible car commute, I've chosen neither.
So I have a new job starting Monday at Etsy in Brooklyn! The office overflows with bikes. I'm excited for that, and it seems like it'll be a fun place to work.
Thanks to all of you for providing a welcoming community while I was in San Diego. I had a great time on all of the rides we took. If you'd like to stay in touch via Facebook, I'm at https://www.facebook.com/akgerber , and my email is me @t alangerber.us (slightly disguised, remove spaces & replace @t with @). Drop me a line if you're passing through New York.
It's been a joy knowing you and sharing the occasional ride with you here in San Diego, and I wish you all the best in your new hometown! Please keep us updated on your doings, and let us know next time you're in town.
It's been a pleasure knowing you and for sharing some of your adventures. Please say hello from time to time and let us know first hand about living in NYC.
It's a shame that SD didn't pan out, but I am really impressed that you're making the choice based on what's important for you and not settling. That's something not done to much these days, and is admirable.
Sorry to see you go. :face-sad: but happy that you are going toward something exciting. What will you be doing for Etsy? My sister has a store there and swears by it. Let us know if you come to visit. We can whip up a ride or something. Best of luck to you.
