sso:I just found out about the Beer and Music Fest on May 9. There will be a bike ride from the beach to the brewery, that I plan on checking out. I like the beer and hope the music isn't bad...I haven't heard of any of the bands that will be playing.
sso:I rode to the City Heights Farmers' Market last Saturday and learned about the Mid-City ride from the Bike Kitchen folks (I think). It takes place on every second saturday of the month (Next one is on 5/9) and IIRC, the goal is to ride around for an hour. The ride starts at the City Heights market.
sso:From the SDCBC mailing list:May I add to that list of bike events:
5/8/09 - Critical Manners ride - "on the SECOND Friday of the month. Gather at 7-7:30pm at the Bea Evenson Fountain in front of the Ruben H. Fleet Science Museum (big fountain on the east end of Balboa Park) and depart at 8pm".
5/20/09 - Ride of Silence - "We will meet at the corners of Washington Street, India Street and San Diego Avenue. The ride will take us up to Old Town and then we will doubleback south to Downtown San Diego. Bring black armbands and a light."
thom:@ Protorio and/or Samantha: where does the Critical Manners ride typically go, and for how long? Or is there a set schedule? The route changes every time. The last few times, the Critical Manners and Grey Matter rides have merged into one ride. The rides I have attended have been quite fast paced, with quite a bit of elevation change, and for 20 miles plus: Think Critical Mass (just with a fraction of the riders); faster, hillier and for longer distances than the average Townie ride, as one reference.
Njord Noatun:
Next month's (August) GM ride is "racing" at Fiesta Island: During a 45 minute race window, each rider gets a card for every lap (there are two [partially overlapping] loops on Fiesta Island - approx. 2.5 and 4 miles, resp.) completed (two cards for the long loop and one for the short loop), and the winner is the one with the most cards at the end of the 45 minutes. If I were to "race" - again, I won't be - I would just do a few leisurely laps (I guess I would aim for three long loops [avg. 16 mph or so] and if I realized I couldn't make it all the way around the third time I would just do the short loop instead) just to collect the cards and have fun!
Njord Noatun:Every 2nd Friday of the month features the "Grey Matter Ride": The ride starts at the fountain on El Prado (sounds familiar?) at 7:00PM. I have only made it to one of these - comparable in length, speed and elevation differentials to CM, but with a lot fewer people (and no running red lights!) - perhaps 10-20 riders. A ton of fun - recommended. Alas, I won't be going - out of town.
Shapps:
Is this put on by the Alleycat folks?
