    Here, it's time again for our monthly ride to join the bicycling community in Tijuana. For those who have never been, throw out all the crap that's been programmed into your mind. Baja is nothing like "mainland" Mexico. Riding in Tijuana, you will experience more courtesy than in San Diego, and the one time that we sold that blonde, we made enough money to buy tacos for everyone, and still got to keep her bike (which was later given to charity). We meet at Mission Brewery and ride down and back (16mi there, 10 mi in TJ, 16mi back). an option is to take the trolley for the US portion and meet the group for the TJ portion. We like to keep a 15mph pace in the 'States to allow for flats, train, etc. Once in Tijuana, the pace is rather slow, allowing for all ages/abilities. We grab a bite to eat before heading back. You haven't lived until you've had an IPA in San Diego, and tacos in Tijuana.

    We're on again! Same ol'- same ol'. We're trying to leave closer to six, so chime in if you're running late. The trolley is another great option, if you're running late. We have a few new faces this month, so the word is getting out!

    Well the March ride down to TJ was fast due to a tailwind. Ten cyclists met at Mission Brewery and rode down to San Ysidro. Hans rode his clown bike down and led most of the way.

    First Friday of every month. We leave Mission Brewery at 6, to meet the Tijuana group at 8, Trolley is an option for anyone that either doesn't want to ride the 50mi loop, or keep a 15mph pace to get down there(we keep the pace at 15 to allow for flat tires or waits at the border, without stressing about it).

    Come celebrate Dos de Mayo this Friday after work. Same drill as always, we're actually getting out at a reasonable time in order to grab a bite beforehand if you don't get something from the brewery (The following day is the Rosarito-Ensenada bike ride).

    Reminder:
    The Padres will be playing the same night. This means the parking situation for cars will suck. This won't affect you however, because you can ride your bike to the brewery, or take any of the trolleys to get there. Santee, El Cajon, San Ysidro.. Also, this event is perfectly timed to have virtually no border wait, entering the 'States afterward.

    for years now, the first Friday of the month marks our evening trek to TJ where we join the unity of the bicycle clubs in Tijuana for their well organized tour of various neighborhoods. Leaving Mission Brewery shortly after 6pm for a moderate (15mph?) group ride to the border, where we meet the other groups at 8:00. 18 miles to the arch means the later we leave, the faster we will have to ride.Let's get this on the road, so we won't stress it if someone gets a flat, train crossings, etc.
    The trolley is another option if the start time doesn't fit your schedule or you just want to join for the leisurely paced 12mi ride through Tijuana. Before heading back to San Diego, we stop for a bite to eat before crossing the shortest border wait imaginable (usually less than 10 minutes).

    Invite your friends, as this is an easy adventure. The pace in Tijuana is slow, well organized, for all ages/abilities. Grouping up frequently so nobody gets dropped or lost.
    The evenings are perfect this time of year, and we look forward to meeting all the new faces every month.

    This Friday, our monthly trek to Tijuana, to join with the local riders from TJ, is once again upon us. The main difference this month is that Malmut Brewing now has extended their hours and added a kitchen now that they have moved in to their new home. Located just west of Avenida Revolucion, on 3rd.
    We'll be meeting at Mission Brewery and leaving shortly after 6. Keeping a moderate (15mph?) Pace will get us to Plaza Cecilia and the arch, by 8:00.
    As always, invite your friends. Some of us ride the 18 miles down from the brewery, while others may opt to jump on the trolley and join us before crossing the border... or just join us at the arch, visible from the 'states.
    Forget all the fears that the media feeds to you. Tijuana is nicer riding, in many ways, than San Diego. This is an all ages ride. Although it's a great opportunity to try your Spanish, it's not necessary (but appreciated) as most Mexicans understand more English than they may feel comfortable speaking, much like many Southern Californians. Spread the word!

    They could use a bike rack, but they must see the need before they solve the problem. Their new place is coming along great, with their selections of beer and new wood-fired kitchen. Nice outdoor 2nd floor seating deck.

    What better way to kick off the New Year than getting on that bike gear you received for Christmas (Oops! It's supposed to be a surprise) and join us for our monthly jaunt to Tijuana, to join the riders in TJ and explore the city.
    If you're not up for the entire adventure, the trolley can take you and your bicycle to and from the border, where you can meet us for the Mexican portion where we ride around town then grab a bite to eat before heading back.
    As expected, speaking a little Spanish is always appreciated, but not a must. Many of the "locals" speak English and are some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet. Heck, even some of us speak Spanish!
    Forget the fear mongering on Fox... Riding in Tijuana is in many ways, safer than riding in San Diego. The riding pace in Tijuana is a little slower paced, and you are never abandoned if you should have a flat tire, chain falls off, etc.

    Meet us at Mission Brewery by 6, and grab a bite to eat from the catering truck, as we try to leave by 6:15. We need to meet the main group at Plaza Santa Cecilia at 8:00, so the later we leave Mission, the faster we have to ride to get there. Bring an extra inner tube to share and lights (although we'll almost be to a full moon!)

    Whether you take your bike on the trolley, or ride with us down from Mission Brewery, Join us for a memorable evening ride through Tijuana with the local bike clubs down there. We've been doing this ride for years, so look for detail from previous months. Always a good time, and this month we can experience Tijuana's new protected bike path! Spread the word and bring a friend! This ride has participants from all ages from Grandparents to children sleeping in carriers. "Bring whatcha got". Everything from beach cruisers to vintage/antiques, to road racers have shown up on previous rides.

    I always meant to do one of these also--seemed like a safe and fun way for a gringo to see TJ. You'll be missed, Hans.

    Arturo and Paseo de Todos in TJ will be dedicating the May 1, 2015 ride to Hans. As Arturo said at the memorial, Hans was instrumental Paseo de Todos in TJ.



    Last month we all lost a good friend that lead this ride every month. Please join us in the ride down to Tijuana to celebrate him and enjoy the ride.
    The first portion for the Americans starts at 6:00 at Mission Brewery.

    This is usually how it goes:
    - Leave around 6:00 pm from Mission Brewery downtown. (~17 miles)
    - Once at the boarder, most cross into Mexico for the next segment and some turn around or take the trolley back.
    - Get to the ride by 7:30-8:00 in Tijuana and start the ride with the locals (~10 miles)
    - Grab tacos and beers after the ride and head back across the boarder. There is never a line coming back at that time.
