In defense of protected bikeways Nov. 21, 2014 Hutton Marshall | The Spoken Word "Through a program with new Belgium brewing and its annual Tour de Fat, I donated my car and pledged to live car-free for a year in exchange for a commuter bicycle. I’m using the experience to take a look at the state of bicycling in San Diego, and how it fits into the city’s economy, culture and future growth."
I think it was a well written piece. Playing "devil's advocate", articles like this are a great way to bring out adversaries and dispel any of their misconceived notions. what I took from the article was that the current state of our transportation system and societal values combine to create an unsafe environment. Responsibility must be increased in the behavior of both motorists and bicyclists. Part of being safe is realizing the dangers involved with any activity.
